Job Description

The Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner is a financial regulatory state agency and offers competitive salary and State of Texas benefits.  Perform complex administrative support and technical program assistance work for the Director of Consumer Protection and the agency’s examination section. Work involves coordinating high-level administrative operations of the agency and the examination division. Assuring that examination and investigation reports are processed, filed, and the data bases are updated accurately. Reviews and assures that proper routing of examination and investigation reports are maintained and processed. Trains and supervises the work of examination administrative staff support. Drafts and proof reads correspondence.  Gathers and/or researches information and creates reports as needed, including monthly activity reports. Assures that reports and correspondences deadlines are met. Coordinates communication and support between field examiners and Austin Office Staff. Provides leadership and guidance to assure completion of all administrative functions and duties. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provides administrative and technical assistance to the Director of Consumer Protection.
  • Provides technical guidance and advice on administrative matters to the Director of Consumer Protection and the agency’s examination section.
  • Communicates administrative policies, procedures, standards, and methods to the agency’s examination staff employees.
  • Reviews administrative practices and programs and assists in formulating policies as appropriate.
  • Coordinates calendars, meetings, and other activities with other governmental agencies, executives, and organizations on behalf of the Director of Consumer Protection.
  • Assists in the planning or preparation of reports, manuals, and publications.
  • Assists in making recommendations regarding administrative decisions to the Director of Consumer Protection as appropriate.
  • May communicate agency objectives, tasks, and decisions to the agency’s examination section staff on behalf of the Director of Consumer Protection.
  • May coordinate administrative assignments, programs, and other administrative matters within a program, division, or agency.
  • May prepare notices or agendas for meetings and hearings.
  • May supervise the work of others.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in a technical program area and administration management. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration or a related field is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

    Substantial knowledge and proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheets and database software.

    Duties require a person who is efficient, has excellent communication skills (both oral and written), keyboarding skills, and organizational skills. 

    Must maintain effective working relationships with field and office staff.

    Candidate should be detail-oriented and must be able to work independently to meet required deadlines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of accepted business practices and procedures; of applicable rules, regulations, and policies; and of related legislative and legal practices and procedures.

Skill in the use of standard office equipment and software.

Ability to handle high-level administrative issues, to analyze and solve work-related problems, to communicate effectively, and to supervise the work of others.
