Starting September 1, 2019, pawnshops will be able to choose whether they opt into pawnshop employee licensing. If a pawnshop opts in, then all of its employees must be licensed.

Pawnshops may opt in online through the ALECS system by following the 3 steps below:

  1. Log in to ALECS
  2. Click "Manage My Business" from the menu on the left
  3. Under Pawn Shop Business Options, click the button called "Pawn Employee OptIn/OptOut".
  4. Make your selection and click Save

Pawnshop employee licenses that renewed in May-June 2019, will continue to be valid until June 30, 2020.

Starting October 1, the fee for a new pawnshop employee license will be $50, and the fee for a pawnshop employee license renewal will be $25.
