Exam Process Information
The examination department's main responsibility is to conduct routine examinations of pawnshops to ensure proper record keeping and compliance with the Texas Pawnshop Act. Examinations are approximately once every 18 months for the majority of pawnshops.
When the representative of the commissioner appears at a pawnshop to conduct an examination, the pawnshop must make available adequate work space with:
- a desk or table
- a suitable chair
- adequate lighting
- convenient access to a 110 volt electrical outlet
The area provided for the representative must be reasonably suited for office work.
A copy of this report must be retained and made available to examiners during an examination.
