Job Description |
General Description:
Performs complex (journey-level) accounting work specifically in processing and reconciling accounts payable and some revenue, preparation of financial analyses and reports; establishes and maintains accounting systems; prepares agency budgets; and works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field.
or
- Graduation from an accredited two-year degree with major coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field and two years of work experience in accounting or finance. Plus two (2) years of experience in accounting and financial operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in accounting work for a Texas state agency.
- Experience using Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS), Centralized Accounting Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS), and State Property Accounting System (SPA).
- Experience in preparing annual financial reports and budgets.
- Experience with revenue processing.
- Experience with general ledgers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Knowledge of financial administration and fiscal accounting; of governmental accounting; of budget control methods, policies, and procedures; and of laws and regulations pertaining to fiscal operations.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted According Principles (GAAP) and ability to apply.
- Working knowledge of accounting software.
- Skill in using a personal computer with Microsoft applications to include Access, Excel, and Word.
- Must have strong critical thinking, analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret laws and regulations to apply accounting theory.
- Ability to work accurately with numerical detail.
- Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work effectively and cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups.
- Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work beyond normal work schedule to meet necessary accounting deadlines and reports as needed.
- Ability to maintain confidential information
Physical Requirements:
The position requires the employee to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (moving around the work-site) is routinely required to carry out some duties. This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/customer interaction, occasionally climbing, kneeling, crawling, and lifting less than 50 pounds.
