Examination Process

All businesses licensed by the Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner (OCCC) are examined on a periodic basis. An examination consists of a review of a representative sample of the licensee’s financing-related documents by an OCCC examiner. Following are some of the most common questions about the examination process.

Pawn shop information on optional pawn employee licensing

As of September 1, 2019, pawnshops are no longer required to license their pawn employees through the OCCC. If a pawnshop opts in (chooses to have their employees to be licensed through the OCCC), then all of its employees must be licensed.

Pawnshops may only opt in or out during the Pawn Shop Renewal period (June of every year) online through the ALECS system by following the 3 steps below:
